For your consideration is a vintage circa 1920's-30's Staunton wood chess set with original wood box. There is no board. The set was probably made by Lardy of France. Kings measure 3 5/8" in height with a 1 5/8" diameter base. Pawns are just over 1 3/4" in height. The 32 piece set is not weighted but the pieces have a hefty feel. Piece bottoms have replacement green felts. The set has some minor flaws which do not distract from its beauty. One boxwood Pawn is a replacement. Winning bidder may choose to have Alan Dewey make an exact replacement Pawn. One boxwood Bishop has a severe lean. One boxwood Pawn has a nick in its base. One black Bishop has a split/crack at the bottom part of its stem near the base. There is a nick in the base of the black Queen. The black Queen also has a very slight lean. See Picture. The wooden box is in rough condition with cracks to its bottom. The sliding wood lid has missing wood from its side and will not open and close and will not sit on the top of the box.. The boxwood pieces exhibit a nice patina which my pictures do not do justice. A very nice vintage set to add to your collection. A great vintage set for tournament, blitz or home play. for Priority Mail shipping. No International shipping. EACH PIECE WILL BE INDIVIDUAL;L WRAPPED FOR ADDED PROTECTION DURING SHIPPING.
